Surprising revelation

I didn't realize until I went into edit mode that the story I've told is written almost entirely from the male point of view.

I could rewrite it from the female perspective, I suppose, but it wouldn't be the same story, would it?

Fear

A member of my family is pushing me to read my final draft. I'm not so sure about that. I've told her that the book is an erotic romance, and she assures me that it won't bother her.

Of course, she doesn't know what I've written, and my gut tells me she is going to be shocked.

It's been my experience that people rarely think of their sister/mother/daughter/aunt in sexual terms.

What to do? Maybe I'll just wait until it's published, and take the chicken's way out.

First draft and editing

I completed my first draft yesterday, and have begun the editing process. I wasn't too surprised to find that, halfway into the edit, I found a need to change some things.

Yesterday I had 58,000 words, which I expected I would edit to around 40,000.

Today I deleted the last five chapters, and edited quite a bit of extraneous crap and unnecessary description and explanation.

Sadly, I killed five characters in the editing process. Sorry about that, Jessie, Katy, Brendan, Cory, and Loretta.

Here it begins

Hello, my name is Gemma Carlson, and I am just about to finish my very first book, a story of love, revenge, and magic.

I've just ready to send off my application to join the Romance Writers of America, and I'm pretty excited about that.

I haven't a clue about agents or getting published, but I think I've written a story people will want to read.

I created this blog because it was the easiest way to get a website.

I'm a woman of indeterminate age. I'm married to a lovely man. We have two cats that allow us to share a house in Florida with them.

Thanks for stopping by!
